Hold On To What You Believe

Hold On To What You Believe

A Message to our campers

Hello everyone! I hope that the transition from camp and summer vacation to your busy lives has gone well. I want you to know that you are missed! This summer was one of the best summers, and that could not be possible without you! I also want you to know that our summer wasn't great because of how many campers we had or how much fun we had as a staff. Those things always help; however that's not what really made it great. What really made it great was how God interacted with us this summer and how you interacted with God! It was a powerful summer.

Jesse Baize, one of our summer staff, often tells everyone that when you leave camp that you'll start to tell yourself that it wasn't real. You'll convince yourself that you didn't really connect with God. You'll tell yourself that those people who loved you unconditionally aren't real. You'll tell yourself that the decisions you made for God weren't real. However, I want you to know that what you experienced here at camp this summer was real. In fact, I want you to understand that it was more real than anything you've ever experienced...camp life is a closer resemblance of what God intends for this world. You really did connect with God this summer! He really does Love you! Jesus really did offer up His life for you! That love you experienced here at camp is real. It is unconditional. It is powerful and it does not have to stay here at camp!

I was thinking about what I wanted to share with you now that you have returned to your normal routine, and what came to mind was a song by Mumford and Sons titled, "Hold On To What You Believe". While Mumford and Sons lead singer doesn't want to get caught up with titles such as Christian...this song really describes the transition from camp to where you are. The song states;

"This city breathes the plague of loving things more than their creators".

So often the world we live in and the priorities of the world yell loudly that there are much more important things than our creator. That is a lie!

"But hold on to what you believe in the light when the darkness has robbed you of all your sight".

This world so often works to blind us from the truth. It so often has an agenda to get you to buy this, to do this, and tells you that only true happiness can be found in this product or that. Again that is a lie!

"So hold on to what you believed in the light".

While you may find yourself struggling upon your return to this world wondering if your camp experience was real...wondering if your encounter with the Living God was real I want you to know that it was real & that God is still with you! You are not alone! While you may seem to notice the darkness I want you to know that the Light is more powerful...you should know that darkness is not the opposite of light, but rather it is the absence of light. When light enters darkness must retreat...

John 1:5 "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

John 12:45 "I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness."

1 John 4:4 "You dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."

Romans 8:31 "What then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"

This summer our focus was on how God pursues us and how he makes us into a new creation. God truly frees us from the sin that entangles. His light casts out the darkness. Remember what you believed when you experienced God's glorious light this summer and hold fast to it. Know that you are an heir of God. Know that you are loved by God. Know that God is for you!

I hope to see you next summer; however more than that I hope and pray that you hold on to what you believe. That you hold onto Christ! I pray that your faith in God may be strengthened daily and that His light shines through you, for there are many who have not experienced what you have at camp and there are many who desperately need to know the love of their Heavenly Father. I pray that God uses your life to reveal his light!

Hold on to what you believe in the Light!!!
